Research Interests

In 1992, I founded the Particle Physics Group at TTU. This group, which currently consists of 4 faculty members, is primarily active at CERN, in the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Calorimeter. Our group also leads an active, multinational detector R&D project, called DREAM, of which I am the spokesperson. Both projects are supported by research grants from the US Department of Energy.

My personal research interests include the boundary areas between particle physics, astrophysics and cosmology, and in particular the role of relic neutrinos, remnants of the early stages of the Big Bang, in observable phenomena, such as high-energy cosmic rays.

I am also considered the world's foremost expert on calorimetry, the detector technique of choice in many modern (astro)particle physics experiments. I am the author of the standard text on this topic.
