Important! Make a copy of this homework to study for your midterm before you turn it in. Work out exercise 7.1 as well as problem 7.5. Also,

  1. Consider the 1-D delta function well: V(x) = -α δ(x) where α is a positive constant and V(x) = 0 for x ≠ 0. Find all of the bound state energies (assuming E < 0 for bound states) as well as any wave functions for this potential. If any exist, plot the wave functions.
  2. For the infinite 1-D square well of width L, find the minimum possible energy when 6 non-interacting fermions that obey the Pauli exclusion principle are in this well. What is the minimum energy for 6 non-interacting bosons?
