Home > What is Linux? > Linus Torvalds Monday, April 12, 1999 | Last Updated 2:30pm The Linus Torvalds Documentation Project With all due apologies to the Linux Documentation Project we hereby present this page as the ultimate Linus Torvalds web resource. It began with a the simple request of a Linux Journal subscriber -- does Linus have his own web page? Naturally, I knew who he meant; he had to mean Linus Torvalds -- creator of Linux. One of the people to achieve -- well, in the computing community, at least -- the kind of fame that Sinatra has, or Prince, or Fabio . . . the kind of people who are well-known enough you can identify them with just one name. My first thought when I read the question was, "Well, sure, he must have a web page; a net-savvy guy like Linus? Of course he does." So I fired up my web search engine of choice, and fired off my query. It turns out, of course, that he does have a web page. Here it is. It's not much of a page; not surprisingly, Linus is much too busy hacking the Linux kernel and having a life to put too much effort into dashing off frivolous web pages. (Unlike some of us.) I sent out a response to my e-mail and went on with my day. But I kept thinking about all the hits I'd got on my Alta Vista query; about 4,000! Now, I'm sure a lot of those pages just mention Linus in passing, but a few of them had to be pages with more information about the shyest hacker ever to have his own cult of personality. I had to check them out. Here are the best of them. If you know of any more sites with information about Linus, please drop us a line. Thanks!
