For your final writing assignment, I want you to write a two to five page, typed (or word processed) essay about the nature and purpose of the university. I want you to include the student's viewpoint as well as that of at least two professors---you will need to schedule an office appointment for this interview with at least two of your professors (excluding me).

Be sure that you address the following points:

• How is a university different from a vo-tech school?
• Is the primary purpose to "educate" students or to provide a place for the faculty to practice their "scholarship?"
• How is the university supported---who pays?
