For your first writing assignment, I want you to write a two to five page, typed (or word processed) letter to your "son or daughter" (name of your choice) who is just starting college. In this letter you should emphasize why college is important to them as a person, as well as how it may affect their professional careers. Give them the benefit of your "college experience," especially the things that you might change if you had the chance to do it over. Be sure that you address the following points:

• Time management
• Attending class
• How to study for exams
• Health and exercise
• Partying
• Activities
• Sampling classes outside of their major
• Part time jobs
• Dating

Remember, you are paying for their education, so give them good advice.
