Comet Terasako 1987d. January 26, 1987.
15 minutes exposure, Ilford HP5. 6" f/3.75 schmidt-newtonian prime focus
Combination of the above two images.
On this night the comet was about magnitude 7.2 with very short and faint tail. Due to its proximity to the Sun, the comet was never a prominent object and faded quickly.
This photograph was taken just 4 weeks after the previous photographs. The comet was predicted to be about 10.6 magnitude at this time, however, even though 13th magnitude galaxies are visible in the image, only the vaguest hints of the comet are visible. The position is indicated by the circle.
