Saturn 1970's Images

1 second exposure, Kodak Tri-X 400 film.
5" f/5 refractor plus 6mm Orthoscopic eyepiece.

My first attempt at photographing Saturn, back in the dim distant age of 1971! Very poor by today's standards, however at the time I was overjoyed at capturing the rings!

In 1979, the Earth passed through the plane of Saturn's rings, at times making the rings virtually invisible. The photographs below were taken in December, 1979.

1 second exposure, Kodak Tri-X 400 film.

3 seconds exposure, Kodak Tri-X 400 film.
