Mare Humorum


1/500 second exposure, Fuji Super HG II 400 film.
12.5" f/6 newtonian telescope plus a 25mm eyepiece.

This photograph shows the southern section of Oceanus Procellarum, and the small Maria, Humorum and Nubium.

Mare Humorum is the roughly circular mare to the south of Oceanus Procellarum. It has the large crater Gassendi on its northern rim. Mare Nubium lies to the east of Mare Humorum, with its very western edge visible in this photograph on the left-hand edge. Also on the left-hand edge of the photograph is the crater Bullialdus.

To the east of Oceanus Procellarum, near the limb of the Moon is the dark floored crater Grimaldi , with Riccioli just to the east of it, while a short distance to the north is Hevelius, with its smaller neighbour Cavalarius.
