One good thing about staying in the shearer's quarters was that showers were available. However unless an icy shower was desired, it was necessary to start a fire underneath the water heater first.
For some reason that job invariably seemed to fall to me! Perhaps it was because I was the only one who knew how to use a axe properly! Most of the cityfied members had never seen a wood fire and had no idea how to get one going.
No! That is NOT petrol in the drum. I am not cheating in trying to start the fire!
