Mars

The 2001 opposition of Mars was a rather favourable one, especially for southern hemisphere observers. At opposition, the planet was about 65,000,000km from the Earth and situated in the southern constellation of Sagittarius. Also, during June 2001, the more photogenic side of the planet was visible during the evening from Western Australia.
