M91 is a fairly large and bright barred spiral galaxy in Virgo, close to the centre of the huge Virgo cluster of galaxies. Easily visible in an 8" telescope, it appears as a bright central patch of light, surrounded by a faint, uneven haze.


5 minutes exposure, Meade 416XT CCD.
8" f/6 newtonian at prime focus.
