M64 is large and bright spiral galaxy in Coma Berenices. In an 8" telescope it appears as a bright, elongated haze with a bright nucleus. Its common name is the "Black Eye Galaxy". This name comes from the patch of very dark absorbing dust close to the nucleus. This patch of dust is visible in a 12" telescope.
