M58 is a bright, face-on spiral galaxy that is a member of the Virgo cluster. It is easily visible in an 8" telescope and appears as a bright eliptical haze with a bright nucleus. Being situated in the Virgo cluster, the surrounding region contains numerous faint galaxies.
