M27 is one of the brightest planetary nebulae in the sky. It is visible in a 6 x 30 finder and the dumb-bell shape is visible in a 6" telescope. The central star is visible in an 8" telescope.
The nebula is bright enough to observe even under moderate light pollution, and exhibits a strong responce to an OIII filter. In many ways it is the best example of a planetary nebula for small telescopes in the northern sky.
