M106 is a beautiful spiral galaxy in Canes Venatici. It is visible as an eliptical patch of light in an 8" telescope, while a 12" begins to show a hint of spiral structure.

The edge-on spiral galaxy to the right (west) of M106 is the 11.3 magnitude NGC 4217. Several other fainter galaxies are also visible in the above image.
