Partial Lunar Eclipse
July 5, 2001

The partial eclipse of July 5, 2001, was the last eclipse I observed from Western Australia. It was also the first partial eclipse during which I made crater timings. The strangest effect of the eclipse was watching the shadow close to mid-eclipse. The shadow was moving across several of the maria, when it stopped and began to retreat. After years of watching total eclipses, it did not look right!
