IC 5148

IC 5148

Combination of 6, 3 minute exposures, SBIG ST9XE CCD camera.
300mm f/6 newtonian telescope at prime focus.

IC 5148 is a small but moderately bright planetary nebula in Grus. Although it is very low for northern observers, from the southern hemisphere it is a very nice object. In an 8" telescope, it appears as a small disk that is a little darker in the centre. In a 12", it is clearly annular. The nebula shows a good response to an OIII filter.

Combination of 15, 3 minute exposures using an H-alpha filter, 20, 3 minute exposures using Sulphur II filter
and 10, 3 minute exposures using an Oxygen III filter.
SBIG ST-8XE CCD. 300mm f/6 newtonian telescope at prime focus.

From the northern hemisphere the planetary is very low on the southern horizon. Nevertheless it can be observed from the southern states as in the image below, which was taken from west Texas.

Combination of 10, 3 minute images unfiltered.
SBIG STL-1001E CCD. 20" f/6.8 cassegrain at prime focus.
