SBIG STL-1001E CCD. 300mm f/6 newtonian telescope at prime focus.

IC 4406 is an unusual-looking planetary nebula in Lupus, about 3 degrees north of the third magnitude star, iota lupii. It is listed as 10th magnitude and was an easy object in an 8" telescope. It appeared as a small but bright, slightly elongated patch of light, surrounded by a faint haze, elongated at right angles to the brighter region. It looked more like a galaxy than a planetary nebula. The nebula showed a good response to an OIII filter.
