IC 405 is one of a pair of large, but fairly faint nebulae, in the constellation Auriga. They are situated about 5 degrees north of beta tauri (Al Nath). The other is IC 410. IC 405 is the larger and slightly brighter of the two. Both were visible in a 10" telescope under very dark skies.
