IC 2501

3 minutes exposure, SBIG ST-4 CCD.
300mm f/6 newtonian at prime focus.

IC 2501 is a very small but bright planetary nebula in Carina. It is situated about half way between the 3rd magnitude star, iota carinae and the beautiful open cluster, NGC 3114. The magnitude is quoted as 10.4 and it is an easy object in an 8" telescope. However, high magnification is needed to show its tiny disk. An OIII filter helps to identify it at low magnification.
