IC 2488

25 minutes exposure, Fuji Superia 400 film.
5" f/5 refractor, prime focus.

Within the False Cross, on the border of Vela and Carina is the scattered open cluster, IC 2488. Most of the stars in the cluster are "A" and "B" main sequence stars, but there are a couple of red giants as well. The bright orange star in the centre of the image is N velorum.

The small red patch to the north (above) of the cluster, is the bright planetary nebula, NGC 2899.
