IC 1613

Combination of 2, 3 minute exposures taken with a Meade 416xt CCD.
16" f/10 schmidt-cassegrain telescope with an f/6.3 focal reducer.

IC 1613 is a very large elliptical galaxy in the constellation Cetus that is another member of the Sculptor group of galaxies. As is common with galaxies in this group, although IC 1613 has a relatively bright apparent magnitude of 9.9, its large size makes it a difficult object for smaller telescopes unless the skies are very dark. In an 8" telescope under dark skies, the galaxy appears as a vey faint smudge of light.

Combination of 10, 3 minute exposures.
SBIG ST8XE CCD camera. 300mm f/6 newtonian telescope at prime focus.

Combination of 20, 3 minute exposures unfiltered.
SBIG STL-1001E CCD. 20" f/6.8 Dall-Kirkham cassegrain telescope at prime focus.
