Combination of 2, 3 minute exposures taken with a Meade 416xt CCD.
8" f/6.3 schmidt-cassegrain telescope at prime focus.

IC 1459 is a large and bright elliptical galaxy in the southern constellation of Grus. In an 8" telescope the galaxy appears as a bright of light surrounded by a fainter haze.

To the south of IC 1459 is the edge-on spiral galaxy, IC 5264. This galaxy is also easily visible in an 8" telescope as a very faint streak of light.
