Comet Hale-Bopp
July - August 2005

Comet Hale-Bopp. July 30, 2005.
Combination of 10 3 minute images. SBIG ST9XE CCD, 300mm f/6 newtonian at prime focus.

After being away from Australia for 4 years, I had the opportunity to return for an observing run at the same observatory where I had first photographed comet Hale-Bopp 10 years previously. Observations were attempted on 4 nights, with the comet being recorded on each night. The locations of the comet are indicated by lines.

On this night I made 3 sets of images of the comet during the night seperated by several hours. The motion of the comet between each set is easily seen. Curiously, the data from these images has been the last reported to the MPC even 3 years later.
