NGC 1407, number 47 in the Herschel 400 list, is a fairly large and bright elliptical galaxy in Eridanus. It is the brightest member of a small group of galaxies, 7 of which are visible in a wide field eyepiece. Apart from NGC 1407, 3 of these are visible in the above image. NGC 1400 (magnitude 10.9) at the right-hand edge, NGC 1402 (magnitude 13.3) above NGC 1400 and IC 343 (magnitude 13.2) above NGC 1407. The 3 outside the image and NGC 1393 (magnitude 13.4), NGC 1391 (magnitude 13.4, and NGC 1394 (magnitude 14.1). Apart from these, there are numerous other faint background galaxies visible.
