NGC 1055, number 43 in the Herschel 400 list, is a moderately bright, edge-on spiral galaxy in the Cetus, located about 0.5 degrees north of M77. Being edge-on, the dark dust lanes are beautifully displayed, along with the prominent central bulge. Overall, the appearance in the image is somewhat reminiscent of M104.
