Herschel 400 List Objects

In mid-2010 I started a project of imaging all of the Herschel 400 list objects. The original intention was to use the same telescope and total exposure length for every object and so provide some context for observers. The telescope I used was a 20" f/6.8 Dall-Kirkam Cassegrain with an SBIG STL-1001E CCD. Images were a combination either of 5, 3 minute exposures or 15, 1 minute exposures, depending on the brightness of stars in the field. The system proved feasible for all of the listeed objects except 2:- NGC 2244 (The Rosette Nebula, list number 78) and NGC 7000 (The North America Nebula, list number 374). These two objects were far too large to image with the 20" so I used my 5" wide-angle reractor for these. M33, (list number 22) was also too large for a single image, and so for this one the image displayed is a mosiac of 4 images.

In adition to imaging each object, I started visually observing all of the objects on the list and include my observing notes with each image. Due to time pressure from work, the visual aspect of the project has been in abeyance for the past few months, but I am hoping to get back into this aspect in the near future and update the files.
