Number 40 in the Herschel 400 list, NGC 1023. NGC 1023 is a bright and very elongated elliptical galaxy in Perseus. There is a distortion on the eastern edge of the galaxy that looks like a second galaxy either interacting with NGC 1023 or passing in front of the larger galaxy.
