NGC 891, located in the constellation of Andromeda and number 36 in the Herschel 400 list, is a classic example of an edge-on spiral galaxy. Exactly edge-on, the dark dust lanes and the central bulge are beautifully displayed.

A favourite target of both visual observers and imagers, the galaxy is easily visible even in a small telescope.
