Apart from the two Herschel 400 list galaxies pictured above, there are two other bright galaxies in the field that were visible in the 18". They are NGC 4283 (magnitude 12.0) just to the left of NGC 4278, and IC 3181 (magnitude 13.6) a little further to the upper left.

Visual Observation Notes:- NGC 4274.

Large and bright with a bright central region. Somewhat elongated. NGC 4278, NGC 4283, and IC 3181 visible in field.
18" f/5 newtonian. 16mm nagler eyepiece. 143x.
Sky View observatory. Zenith limiting magnitude 6.7.

Visual Observation Notes:- NGC 4278.

Forms a pair with NGC 4274. Moderately large with a bright centre surrounded by a faint halo. Circular. NGC 4283 and IC 3181 also visible in field.
