Silhoueted against the bright open cluster M 46 in Puppis, is number 105 in the Herschel 400 list, NGC 2438. It is a small but fairly bright planetary nebula that is a 10" telescope looks annular. Although the planetary appears to belong to M 46, it is in fact just a foreground object, being located only about half as far away.
