Abell 81, also know as IC 1454, is one of the easier Abell planetaries to observe visually. From a dark location it is visible with a 10" telescope with an OIII filter. Located in Cepheus, the planetary is faitly small, and has a quoted magnitude of 14.0, spread out over an area about 0.6 arc minutes across.

The bright galaxy near the top of the image is the 15.3 magnitude PGC 69376
