Abell 7
PK 215 -30.1

Combination of 3, 3 minute exposures, Meade 416XT.
300mm f/6 newtonian at prime focus.

Abell 7 is a very large, very low surface brightness planetary nebula in Lepus. The magnitude is quoted as 13.2, but the light is spread out over and area 12.7 arc minutes in diameter. No trace of the planetary was visible in a 17.5" telescope.

In the image below, there are several galaxies fainter than magnitude 17 recorded. Yet only the vaguest of traces of the planetary are faintly visible to the lower left, all but totally lost in the noise.

Combination of 20, 3 minute images, SBIG STL-1001E CCD.
20" f/6.8 cassegrain at prime focus.
