Abell 71
PK 85 +4.1

Combination of 10, 3 minute exposures, SBIG ST-9XE CCD.
10" f/6.3 schmidt-cassegrain at prime focus.

Abell 71 is a faint and moderately large planetary nebula in Cygnus, about 2.5 degrees north and slightly west of Deneb. The magnitude is about 15 and the diameter is about 2.6 arc minutes. The faintness of the nebula can be seen in the following image, which is a total of 24 minutes exposure with a 16" telescope. The planetary is almost invisible in such a "short" integration!

Combination of 6, 3 minute exposures, SBIG ST-9XE CCD.
16" f/10 schmidt-cassegrain with an f/6.3 focal reducer.

The field around Abell 71 is covered in faint nebulosity, as is much of northern Cygnus. In the case of Abell 71, the nebulosity is part of the emission nebula, Sharpless 2-115.
