Asteroid 3885 Bogorodskij

3885 Bogorodskij is an main belt asteroid with an estimated diameter of about 15 km. It was discovered on April 25, 1979 by Chernykh, N. at Nauchnyj. The semi-major axis is 2.75 AU, the eccentricity is 0.072 and the inclination is 5.31 degrees.

I first observed this asteroid over five nights during June 2007. Initial analysis of the data indicated a period of about 9.9 hours, however the result was very uncerain as each observation session only covered a small portion of the lightcurve.

2005 lightcurve results for 3885 Bogorodskij.
Derived period 9.901 +/- 0.011 hours. Amplitude 0.36 +/- 0.05 magnitude.

In an effort to obtain a better result I observed this asteroid again over six nights during May 2011. Again the data was quite noisy. The analysis did however rule out the result from 2007, with the best fit to the 2011 data indicating a period of 5.803 hours.

2011 lightcurve results for 3885 Bogorodskij.
Derived period 5.803 +/- 0.002 hours. Amplitude 0.35 +/- 0.05 magnitude.

Having obtained this result, I went back to my 2007 data and re-analysed them using the 2011 result as a starting point. A fit was found with a period of 5.802 hours, which seems to indicate that this is the correct period. However in view of the uncertainty, more work needs to be done on this asteroid.
