Comet 1997 J2 Meunier-Dupouy

Comet 1997 J2 Meunier-Dupouy was a nice telescopic object for northern hemisphere observers during 1997 and 1998 when it reached about magnitude 10.5. Unfortunately by the time it was accessible to southern hemisphere observers, it was fading quickly, and was already below 13th magnitude! In these days of ultra-sensitive CCD's and digital cameras, this would not be a problem. However at this time, I was just starting to experiment with using an ST-4 autoguider as an imager, and still very much on the upslope of the learning curve. I did manage to obtain one image of the comet at this time, and then another one some 2 years later when the comet was about 18th magnitude, and surrounded by numerous "bright" anonymous galaxies.
