NGC 7822 is part of a large, sprawling patch of nebulosity in the constellation Cepheus. In the photograph above, NGC 7822 is the faint ribbon of nebulosity near the top of the image. The brighter nebula below it is Sharpless 2-171. At the top of this nebula is the sparse open cluster Berk 59. To the right is the rich open cluster NGC 7762 and the 5th magnitude star SAO 20853.
