NGC 7741

Combination of 41, 2 minute exposures, SBIG ST9XE CCD.
30" f/5 newtonian telescope at prime focus.

NGC 7741 is a moderately bright, barred spiral galaxy in Pegasus, almost in the centre of the Great Square. It is easily visible in a 10" telescope, as a small, bright patch of light surrounded by a very faint haze.

There are a number of very faint background galaxies are also visible in the image. The brightest is the star-like PGC 1760525 to the lower left of NGC 7741. This galaxy has a of magnitude 17.6 and could be a good challenge for observers with 20" or larger telescopes. Just above NGC 7741 is PGC 214984. This galaxy does not have a published magnitude according to "The Sky". To the lower right is a group of apparently interacting galaxies. These remain anonymous.
