NGC 772

Combination of 5, 3 minute exposures. SBIG ST-9E CCD.
16" f/10 schmidt-cassegrain with f/6.3 focal reducer.

NGC 772 is a large and moderately bright spiral galaxy in Aries. In a 10" telecsope it appears as a bright centre surrounded by a faint, elliptical haze. Unfortunately it takes a large telescope to see the spiral arms.

There are a number of faint background galaxies visible in the image. The brightest is the 13th magnitude, elliptical galaxy NGC 770, situated just below NGC 772. This is easily visible in a 10" telescope and appears almost star-like.

Combination of 5, 3 minute images unfiltered.
SBIG STL-1001E CCD. 20" f/6.8 Dall-Kirkham cassegrain telescope at prime focus.
