The southern constellation of Grus is rich in galaxies, many of which are easily visible in a 6" telescope. If it were more accessable to northern hemisphere observers, the region would undoubtably be much better known. NGC 7552 is a bright, barred spiral galaxy. In an 8" telescope it appears as a moderatly bright elongated patch of light with a bright centre. A 12" telescope reveals little more detail.
To the upper left of NGC 7552 are 3 bright galaxies in a group. This is the NGC 7582 group, also known as the "Grus Trio". The other moderately bright galaxy further to the left is the 12.1 magnitude NGC 7632.
