NGC 7531

Combination of 3, 3 minute exposures, Meade 416xt CCD.
8" f/6 newtonian telescope at prime focus.

NGC 7531 is a moderately bright, spiral galaxy in Grus. In an 8" telescope it is easily visible as moderatly bright elongated patch of light with a bright centre. According to the MegaStar program, there is a second galaxy, PGC 70787, magnitude 14.7, on the western edge of NGC 7531. Yet there is no sign of it in the image. Although the image was taken under conditions of moderate light pollution, at 14.7 the second galaxy should have been visible.
