NGC 7424

307 second exposure. Modified Canon Digital Rebel DSLR camera.
5" f/5 refractor at prime focus.

Visible in an 8" telescope as a large eliptical haze, NGC 7424 is a beautiful, multi-armed, barred spiral galaxy in Grus, tilted almost face-on. No trace of the spiral arms can be seen with a small telescope. The edge-on galaxy to the upper left is the 11.4 magnitude NGC 7462.
