NGC 72


Combination of 2, 10 minute exposures, SBIG ST-8E CCD camera.
8" f/10 schmidt-cassegrain at prime focus.

NGC 72 is a member of a compact group of galaxies in Andromeda, situated about 1 degree north east of alpha andromedae. 4 of the galaxies are around 13.8 magnitude and are visible in a 10" telescope. These are NGC 68, (right) NGC 70, (top) NGC 71, (centre) and NGC 72 (bottom left). The 15th magnitude NGC 76 is off to the left of the main group. Numerous other fainter galaxies are also visible in the image.
