NGC 7049

58 minutes exposure, Fuji Provia 400 slide film.
5" f/5 refractor, prime focus.

The southern constellation of Grus is rich with faint galaxies that are interesting to hunt down with the telescope. One of the many groups of galaxies is centred on the 11th magnitude NGC 7049, seen here just to the upper left of the centre of the image. Almost in the centre is the neighbouring galaxy NGC 7041. There are a number of other galaxies in the field, however at this short focal length, they appear star-like.
