NGC 7048

Combination of 10, 3 minute exposures, SBIG ST-9E CCD.
10" f/6.3 schmidt-cassegrain at prime focus.

NGC 7048 is a moderately small, and fairly bright planetary nebula in Cygnus. It is situated about 7 degrees east of Deneb and about 4 north-east of the North America nebula. In a 10" telescope, the planetary is visible as a fairly faint, uniform disk. The bright star visible in the image above, is the 7.2 magnitude SAO 50601. Although this star helps in locating the field of NGC 7048, it makes the planetary more difficult to observe. The use of an OIII filter is a great help.
