NGC 6842


Combination of 10, 3 minute exposures, SBIG ST-7XE CCD.
8" f/6.3 schmidt-cassegrain at prime focus.

NGC 6842 is a moderately small but rather faint planetary nebula on the Vulpecua-Cygnus border, about 10 degrees east and slightly north of Alberio. It is visible as a very faint, circular haze in a 10" telescope. The image above gives some indication of the view through the telescope. In reality, the planetary should have appeared brighter, however clouds were continually passing over during the series of exposures.
