NGC 6820


60 minutes H-alpha filter, using 3 minute sub-exposures.
SBIG ST-8XE CCD. 5" f/5 refractor at prime focus.

NGC 6820 is a faint emission nebula in Vulpecula, about 5 degrees west of M 27. The nebula surrounds a compact open cluster, NGC 6823. It displays beautiful, long "Elephant Trunks" of dark obscuring dust clouds that are best displayed using an H-alpha filter.


Combination of the above image and 30 minutes red, 30 minutes green, and 30 minutes blue, using 3 minute sub-exposures.
The H-alpha image was used as the luminance layer.
