The Hercules Galaxy Cluster

NGC 6047 is one of the brightest members of the Hercules Galaxy Cluster, also known as Abell 2151. This is an extremely rich cluster of galaxies that forms a major part of the Hercules Supercluster. It is also part of the "Great Wall" of galaxies that includes the Coma and Leo clusters. Abell 2151 forms one end of the ginormous chain of galaxies that extends along a filament for around 500 million light years. Distance measurements seem to be a little discordent, but the centre of the cluster appears to be around 485 million light years away. The cluster contains a few giant eliptical galaxies that are radio sources, including NGC 6047, and numerous spiral galaxies, many of which are interacting.
