NGC 5985

Combination of 10, 3 minute exposures, SBIG ST9XE CCD.
300mm f/6 newtonian telescope at prime focus.

NGC 5985 is a beautiful spiral galaxy in Draco, and the brightest member of a line of three galaxies, all of which are visible in the above image. NGC 5985 is the eastern (left) galaxy, then comes NGC 5982 and finally the edge-on galaxy, NGC 5981. Although NGC 5985 is the brightest of the three, I find NGC 5982 to be easier to observe due to its higher surface brightness. The faint galaxy to the north (above) of NGC 5985, is the 17.4 magnitude PGC 2590275.

Combination of 10, 3 minute images unfiltered.
