NGC 5839

NGC 5839 is a moderately bright spiral galaxy located in Virgo. In March 2015, a Type I supernova exploded in this galaxy, reaching about magnitude 13.2 during early April. More details are here .

There are numerous other galaxies in the field. To the left of NGC 5839 is the 12.5 magnitude NGC 5845, while the very bright galaxy near the left edge is NGC 5846 .
